Objectives of the Course

The aim of the International Labor Migration course is to provide students with an understanding of the historical, economic, social, and political dimensions of labor migration. Within the scope of the course, students analyze the causes, forms, and impacts of labor migration; they also evaluate national and international migration policies and assess their effects on labor markets and social structures.

Course Content

The International Labor Migration course addresses the historical background and key theoretical approaches to migration. Within the scope of the course, students learn about the economic and social determinants of labor migration, the working conditions of migrant workers, and issues such as brain drain and irregular migration; they analyze its impacts on labor markets and the social policy responses. In addition, international migration regimes and trade unions’ approaches to migrant labor are discussed.
