Objectives of the Course

The objective of this course is to explain the importance of diseases in horticultural cultivation and to introduce the major fungal, bacterial and viral diseases that are problematic and to teach their symptoms, agents and control methods.

Course Content

This course covers fungal, bacterial and viral diseases that are important in pome fruit trees, stone fruit trees, grape-like fruit species, subtropical fruit species, vegetables and ornamental plants. Each disease is held regarding the symptoms, damage types of the disease, biology and climate requirements of the agents and control methods.

Learning Outcomes
1.Students will understand the importance of diseases in crop production.
2.Students will know the main plant pathogen groups such as fungi, bacteria and viruses and learn how distinguish them each other.
3.Students will recognize economically significant fungal, bacterial and viral diseases of horticultural crops.
4.Students will know how and what extent to use the symptoms in the diagnosis of diseases.
5.Students will learn the methods of management for each disease.
