Objectives of the Course

Buffalo farming in the world and in Turkey; gaining knowledge about the characteristics of buffaloes and the products obtained from buffaloes.

Course Content

Uses of the buffalo species, buffalo breeding in the world and in Türkiye, main buffalo breeds, reproduction and fertility in buffaloes, calf rearing, characteristics of Anatolian buffaloes, evaluation of buffaloes based on appearance, milk and meat production from buffaloes, and health protection in buffaloes.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to explain the status of buffalo production in Turkey and worldwide and the utilization areas of buffaloes.
2.To be able to identify buffalo breeds and compare their main characteristics.
3.TTo be able to explain reproduction, seasonality, feeding and housing characteristics of buffaloes and compare them with those of other farm animals.
4.To be able to explain the characteristics of buffalo milk and meat, evaluate their differences from cattle products, and have knowledge about buffalo products.
5.To be able to explain the management practices of buffalo calves, growing buffaloes and lactating buffaloes, and identify major diseases affecting buffaloes.
