Objectives of the Course

This course aims to give basic principles of characterization, conservation and use of farm animal genetic resources to the undergraduate students.

Course Content

The course covers the aspect of characterization, conservation and sustainable use of farm animal genetic resources. The main topics that will be given are global, regional and national status of farm animal genetic resources, characterization of animal populations, reasons for loss of diversity within and between breeds, categorising risk status, objectives for conservation, conservation strategies and methods (in situ and ex situ), monitoring and evaluation systems, the role of different organizations in conservation.
