Objectives of the Course

It aims to ensure rapid assessment of patients in emergency situations or presenting to the emergency service due to acute and chronic diseases, achievement of triage by adhering to professional ethics and values, the importance of teamwork in emergency interventions and understanding of evidence-based care in accordance with the nursing process.

Course Content

Presentation of emergency service, communication, legal and ethical issues, triage, physical assessment, basic and advanced life support, infection control, evaluation of criminal cases, polytrauma patients, some of the acute medical emergencies.

Learning Outcomes
1.To be able to state the primary and secondary evaluation of patients presenting to the emergency room
2.To be able to state how to perform triage using appropriate classifications and adhering to professional ethical principles
3.To be able to understand the importance of teamwork in emergency interventions
4.To be able to relate pathophysiological mechanism in emergency injuries (bleeding, burns, fractures, etc.) and in emergency situations (hypothermia, hyperthermia, choking, bites, etc.).
5.To be able to list the principles of emergency interventions in emergency injuries (bleeding, burns, fractures, etc.) and in environmental emergency situations (hypothermia, hyperthermia, choking, bites, etc.)
6.To be able to comprehend emergency situations of chronic diseases (asthma attacks, diabetic ketoacidosis, hypoglycemia, etc.) and the importance of implementing evidence based individual nursing care of a patient who presents to the emergency service due to acute diseases (AMI, ARDS, stroke, etc.) in accordance with the nursing process
