Objectives of the Course

Curiosity is one of the deepest and most persistent driving forces of human nature—so pervasive that we often fail to notice its presence. Yet in our daily lives—while reading the news, browsing the internet, or watching a film—we are constantly in pursuit of information. This insatiable desire to learn not only fuels personal growth but also drives global economies. The suppression of curiosity has been linked to depression, while its overstimulation is associated with attention disorders—making it a key determinant of mental well-being. Although curiosity is tied to our most abstract thoughts, it is also a biologically universal impulse observed even in primitive life forms. Despite its fundamental role, a comprehensive understanding of curiosity remains underdeveloped.

Course Content

This course explores the psychology, neurobiology, and creative dimensions of curiosity to deepen individual learning and inspire transformation in experience-based fields such as tourism. It aims to teach students how to harness curiosity as a source of cognitive vitality, learning potential, and lifelong development. Unlike critical thinking, curiosity is not solely concerned with analysis—it involves understanding, connection, emotion, exploration, and the pursuit of questions. The course provides both theoretical insights and practical tools to help students recognize their intrinsic curiosity, protect it in the digital age, and channel it creatively across academic, professional, and personal contexts. Students are encouraged to perceive curiosity not only as a cognitive drive but as a generative force behind creative thinking and experiential service design. Here, curiosity is redefined as more than a means of acquiring knowledge—it becomes a capacity for producing experiences, crafting narratives, enhancing sensory awareness, and fostering aesthetic engagement. Throughout the course, students will engage with curiosity through playful discovery tasks, empathic observation, spatial inquiry, and story-based design exercises.
