The aim of this course is to enable students to understand the historical and sociological development of visual communication culture, art, and aesthetics within a theoretical framework. The course aims to develop students’ ability to perceive works of art multidimensionally, examine them within their social contexts, and strengthen their visual literacy skills. It also seeks to enhance students’ critical analysis skills and to read visual-cultural heritage and the social fabric from an interdisciplinary perspective in relation to aesthetics and design practice.
Theoretical foundations of art history and sociology of art; the relationship between visual composition and aesthetics and social structures (culture, economy, politics); contextual analysis of mass communication, spectacle culture, and everyday objects; critical analysis of historical and contemporary art/design practices through formal, iconographic, and social reading methods.
