Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to teach anthropometric, clinical, biochemical, hematological, biophysical and dietary methods used in nutritional status assessment at individual and community levels, and to enable students to assess, interpret and report the nutritional status of healthy and ill individuals through a scientific, ethical and evidence-based approach.

Course Content

Community nutrition, public health dietetics and nutritional epidemiology; methods used in nutritional status assessment; anthropometric measurements and body composition assessment; clinical signs; biochemical, hematological and biophysical methods; dietary intake surveys; health statistics, mortality and morbidity indicators; nutrition screening tools; implementation, evaluation and reporting of anthropometric measurements and individual dietary intake surveys.

Name of Lecturer(s)
Res. Assist. Şenay ÇATAK
Learning Outcomes
1.Explains the basic concepts of nutritional status assessment at individual and community levels within the context of community nutrition and nutritional epidemiology.
2.Compares anthropometric, clinical, biochemical, hematological, biophysical and dietary assessment methods used in nutritional status evaluation and selects the appropriate method.
3.Evaluates the nutritional status of healthy and ill individuals using scientific measurement techniques and screening tools.
4.Plans and conducts dietary intake surveys, analyzes the data obtained and reports the results at individual and community levels.
5.Interprets health statistics, mortality and morbidity indicators, and ecological factors in relation to nutritional status assessment.
6.Identifies nutritional risks based on assessment results, develops recommendations in accordance with ethical principles and presents the results clearly.
