Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to teach the importance of nutrition in supporting healthy growth and development during infancy and childhood, how to assess nutritional status in acute and chronic nutrition-related diseases in childhood, how to determine energy and nutrient requirements, and the principles of evidence-based medical nutritional therapy. Furthermore, it aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to plan and implement appropriate nutritional approaches in childhood diseases.

Course Content

This section addresses the principles of healthy nutrition in infancy and childhood, as well as medical nutritional therapy for childhood conditions such as obesity, prematurity, malnutrition, digestive system diseases, type 1 diabetes, and malabsorption disorders.

Learning Outcomes
1.It explains the principles of healthy nutrition in infancy and childhood and its effects on growth and development.
2.This section explains the relationship between nutrition and the clinical characteristics of acute and chronic nutrition-related diseases seen in childhood.
3.It assesses the nutritional status of pediatric patients and determines their energy and nutrient requirements.
4.It creates appropriate nutritional plans for childhood illnesses using evidence-based medical nutritional therapy principles.
5.They monitor and evaluate medical nutritional therapy applied in childhood diseases and develop necessary nutritional recommendations.
