Objectives of the Course

To teach students the fundamental concepts of phytotherapy, as well as the properties and uses of medicinal plants; and to equip them with the skills to evaluate the efficacy and safety of herbal products on a scientific basis, analyze herb-drug interactions, and apply this knowledge consciously in professional practice.

Course Content

Medicinal plants and their use for treatment, the concept of herbal medicine, the benefits of plants and herbal medicines over human health, and the situations in which they should not be used.

1.Learns the basic concepts and definitions related to phytotherapy.
2.Gains knowledge about the properties of medicinal plants used in phytotherapy and about traditional herbal medicinal products.
3.Correlates herbal drugs that are effective against symptoms of certain diseases with their mechanisms of action.
4.Explains and applies preparation methods and intended uses of medicinal herbal teas.
5.Discusses the clinical significance of herb-drug interactions.
