Objectives of the Course

The aim of this course is to introduce the effects of environmental pollutants on individuals, populations, and communities, and to ensure the comprehension of their mechanisms of action

Course Content

Definition and general principles of ecotoxicology; distribution of pollutants in the environment and classification of environmental contaminants; effects of pollutants at the population, community, and ecosystem levels; chemodynamics of pollutants; routes of entry of toxic substances into living organisms; ecotoxicological testing methods; factors modifying toxicity test results; evaluation of data obtained from ecotoxicological studies and interpretation of statistical data.

Learning Outcomes
1.Defines ecotoxicology and understands its history, importance, general principles, and major ecotoxicological concepts.
2.Classifies pollutants and understands their distribution in the environment, the abiotic transport of pollutants in aquatic systems, and the transformation processes of pollutants in aquatic environments.
3.Analyzes and understands the effects of pollutants on living organisms and the pathways through which organisms are exposed to toxic substances.
4.Understands toxicity and the factors affecting toxicity.
5.Explains the biochemical and physiological effects of pollutants and the impacts of environmental pollution on populations, communities, and ecosystems.
