The department offers Master and Doctoral programs. The student quotas for both of two programs will be announced according to the needs of the university and the department. MSc. Program: If a person with Bachelor degree satisfies the conditions provided by the Institute for Natural Science, he/she are accepted as a student to the program. Graduate program with thesis consists of 7 credit-courses, non-credit courses and a thesis that totals to a minimum of 21 credits. The courses should be completed in maximum 4 semesters, while the program with thesis must be completed in 6 semesters. Graduate program without thesis consists of 10 credit-courses that totals to not less than 30 credits and a non-credit semester project course. The MSc. program without thesis should be completed in maximum 6 semesters. Ph.D. Program: If a person with MSc. degree satisfies the conditions provided by the Institute for Natural Science, he/she are accepted as a student to the program. Graduate program consists of 8 credit-courses, two seminars, doctoral qualifying exam, thesis proposal and thesis. The courses should be completed in maximum 4 semesters, while the Ph.D. program must be completed in minimum 8 semesters, and maximum 12 semesters. The research areas of the department staff are Module Theory, Group and Ring Theory, Summability and Tauberian Theory, Geometry, Topology, Lotka-Volterra systems, Differential and Integral Equations, Speech Recognition and Synthesis, Natural Language Processing.
History
The department of Mathematics was founded in 1996 with a master of science program. Since then, our department steadily improved in the field of Theory of Algebra and Number, Geometry, Theory of Calculus and Functions, Topology, Applied Mathematics, and Computer Science. The master of science program without thesis is opened in 2000-2001 academic year. In 2009-2010 academic year, our department came to a position to have Ph.D. program. The department currently has 15 academic staff who give 55 different course with 534 ECTS at MSc. programme.
Mission
The department mission is to increase the contribution to the graduate studies at the University of Adnan Menderes, is to create a dynamic and productive academic staff respected in the world of science in the field of Theoretical and Applied Mathematics, is to attempt to train more qualified students to earn graduate programs, is continuously to update our graduate program to comply with the requirements of the day, and is to educate the inquisitive, investigative and productive students.
Vision
The department vision is to give the same level of education at the well-known mathematics departments in the national and international arena, to monitor technological trends and make available them to the staff and the students, and to train the mathematicians who can use his/her knowledge with an active way to comply with the requirements of the day.
Purpose
The main objective of the department is to educate confident, well-educated contemporary individuals who are well qualified to express his/her thoughts, and can search for solutions to the faced problems through reasoning, questioning.
Physical Infrastructure
Lessons are given the classes in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. In addition, a computer lab is available to students. The department has also a classroom for graduate students. Students benefit from campus in the entire social and cultural opportunities.
