The registration, examinations and evaluation procedures in Adnan Menderes University are carried out according to Higher Education Law and Regulations put into place by the Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK). Registration of students is carried out by the Directorate of Student Affairs of Adnan Menderes University.

In order to gain admission to an Associate ( two-year, short cycle) or Bachelors degree programme ( four- year, first cycle), in a higher education institute in Turkey, students are required to take a university entrance exam administered by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). The first stage is the Higher Education Entrance Exam (YGS).

Students who do not recieve over 140 points do not have the right to enter the second university examination (LYS) or to attend a higher education institute ( except for those who have a right for non-examination transfer). Candidates who recieve between 140.000-179.000 points on YGS have the right to apply for associate degrees at Vocational Schools or the Open University.

Candidates with a score of 180 or higher on the YGS exam gain the right to enter the second stage of the university entrance exam Bachelor Placement Exam (LYS). Candidates with scores over 180 on LYS have the right to apply for associate degrees at vocational schools, the Open University and also to a Bachelor degree.

The LYS exam is separated into different areas- natural science, social science and language. Each area is evaluated separately and a standard score is calculated for each test. These standard scores are weighted and as a result, weighted LYS (ALYS) scores are calculated. The ALYS marks are transformed into one standard LYS score. Candidates with a LYS score of over 180 have the right to register on to a bachelor degree programme related to their chose study area. Every programme has different required scores. Students apply directly to ÖSYM with their choices and then are placed on the courses by ÖSYM.

The School of Physical Education and Sports, State Conservatory and the Music and Art programmes in the Faculty of Education of Adnan Menderes University admit students who have taken an Aptitude Test.

In order to apply for a graduate programme, the candidates Bachelor degree grade point avarage must be a minimum of 60 from a total of 100 ( except for the Graduate School of Social Sciences) and they must have graduated from a four-year bachelor degree course. Also candidates are required to achieve a a minimum score of 55 on the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Exam (ALES). Candidates applying to Basic Medical Sciences must achieve at least a basic science score of 45 in the TUS exam.

Candidates who apply for a graduate programme are also required to submit a foreign language certificate; ÜDS (Interuniversity Board Foreign Language Exam) / KPDS (Foreign Language Exam for Civil Servants) - a minimum of 40, an equivalent foreign language exam, or Foreign Language Proficiency Exam carried out by the School of Foreign Languages, and for programmes with a compulsory preparation class a score of at least 70 is required.

Bachelor degrees which have been obtained from higher education institutes in a different country must have been granted equivalency by the Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK) and these candidates must also satisfy the other required conditions.

In order to apply for a doctoral programme:

Candidates who wish to apply directly to a Doctoral degree must have a Bachelor degree grade point average minimum of 75 from a total of 100 (except for the Graduate School of Health Sciences which requires a score of 80), and an ALES scores of at least 70 (except for the Graduate School of Health Sciences which requires a score of 75)

Candidates who have completed a Masters degree must have a minimum score of 75 from their Masters degree, and a minimum score of 55 from the ALES examination.

Candidates who have graduated from programmes consisting of more than 10 semesters (not including preparatory classes) must have achieved have a Bachelor degree grade point average minimum of 60 from a total of 100 and a minimum score of 55 from the ALES examination. Candidates applying to Basic Medical Sciences and Clinical Medical Sciences also need at least 50 from the TUS examination.

All candidates need a minimum score of 55 from ÜDS/KPDS or an equivalent foreign language exam.

Graduate degrees which have been obtained from higher education institutes in a different country must have been granted equivalency by the Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK) and these candidates must also satisfy the other required conditions.

Candidates who have applied for a Master's or Doctoral degree in an area which is different to that of which they have previously completed are first admitted to the Scientific Preparation Programme with the aim of overcoming any deficiencies. This programmes lasts for one academic year. The student will take courses from the relevant department and therefore must pass all these courses. These courses are not counted towards the master or doctoral degree programme.

Foreign languages preparatory education at Adnan Menderes University is provided by the School of Foreign Languages to students of faculties and four-year schools for one academic year in accordance with the requirements of the faculties and schools. At the start of every academic year, a Foreign Language Proficiency examination is carried out by the School of Foreign Languages for newly registered students who are enrolled on courses with a compulsory foreign language preparatory class.

The candidates with the following scores will be considered as exempt from the foreign languages preparatory class:

  • for programmes which are carried out partially in Turkish and partially in a foreign language - a score of 65 out of 100
  • for programmes which are carried out entirely in a foreign language - a score of 70 out of 100

Since the beginning of the 2010-2011 academic year, new procedures for the acceptance of foreign students who wish to carry out their education at associate and bachelor degree levels have been put into place. Foreign students can now be accepted with the national and international examination results of other countries, on the condition that these examinations are approved by the Turkish Higher Education Council. The candidates must be at least in the final year of their high school education or have graduated.

The quotas for international students are announced on the web site of the Directorate of Student Affairs, after they have been determined along with the application dates by the Senate of Adnan Menderes University. The applications of foreign students are evaluated by the Foreign Student Admission Commission of Adnan Menderes University.

Foreign students who are admitted to Adnan Menderes University must prove their Turkish Proficiency level. Students who cannot provide a valid certificate are provided with the opportunity to enter a Turkish Proficiency Examination carried out by the Turkish Language Department of Adnan Menderes University. Students must achieve a Turkish proficiency level of at least B before they are allowed to proceed with their studies. If this level is not achieved, the students are given one year in which to increase their level.
